Lick Of The Month
Bb Turnaround 15
This is but one cycle-based possibility
involving major 7th chords. Here, Bbmaj7 moves up a minor third
to Dbmaj7 and then begins backcycling to Cbmaj7, which finally
moves down a half-step, arriving home at Bbmaj7. This type of
turn is associated with the late great Wes Montgomery, and while
it may not be appropriate for some dominant chord-based blues,
it works well for all kinds of other tunes. Next month, we'll
explore another turnaround. See you then.
