Bb Blues Turnaround 9 This month's turnaround is another of the IIIm7-VI7-IIm7-V7 progression with a couple of interesting features. First, notice how it descends chromatically from Dm7 to Db13b9 to C13 to B13#9 (Db13b9 is a b5 sub for G7 and B13#9 is a b5 sub for F7). Second, notice the common tone (this device is also known as a pedal). Together these two deviced--the common tone and the descending movement result is chords shown. Also, instead of beginning with Dm7, try initiating the series with D13, which results in parallel downward movement against the upper D pedal. See you next month.
