Bb Blues Turnaround 7 Not repeating a turnaround in the course of the same tune is easy--if you have enough information at your disposal. For the last few months we've explored some "minor third" turnarounds. While many possibilities remain, let's now turn our attention to another turnaround device--the IIIm7-VI7-IIm7-V7 progression, which works great in most all situations, from blues to standards to Latin tunes.
Like the examples of the past few months, the following turnaround is in the key of Bb. Notice how the lower voice of the minor 7th chords moves down while the upper voice moves up (this progression could also be viewed chromatically as IIIm7-bIII7-IIm7-bII1, the result of b5 substitutions).
