Bb Blues Turnaround 10
Another type of turnaround that's nice to occasionally pull out of your hat is one I call the "static turn," since it begins with the tonic chord, and then moves chromatically away and then back to it. In this month's example, you move from Bb6 to Dbdim7 to Cm7 to Bb6; observe that the upper and lower notes remain stationary, while only the middle voices move. There are many simple but effective variations of this sequence (some of which we'll explore in upcoming installments), and with slight modifications, this progression makes a great ending. See you next time.
